Celebrate National Library Week: April 10-16

Overdue Fines Forgiveness

In celebration of National Library Week (April 10-16), the Dothan Houston County Library System is pleased to offer an “Overdue Fines Forgiveness” program at all of its locations. From April 10th through April 16th, overdue fines will be waived on all returned books, DVDs and other materials, no matter how long overdue. All overdue fines will be waived no matter how long the items have been checked out, or the reasons for not returning them. This does not include replacement costs for lost or damaged items.

Through this initiative, DHCLS expects to recover some of its long unreturned items, as well as welcome back library cardholders, whose access to library materials has been impeded by their existing overdue fines.

“We want to make sure all residents of Dothan/Houston County have as few barriers as possible to take advantage of their public library’s resources, especially those individuals who are most in need of our services. It will provide them with a chance to start over with a clean record. Tax dollars provide these materials for the community’s overall benefit, and we want them to continue to have a chance to be used productively in the future by everyone.” said Jason LeDuc, Library Director.

In addition, all donations collected during National Library Week will go directly to support the 2016 Summer Learning Challenge, an 8-week series of events in June/July that encourages children and teens to read and learn in order to combat “summer slide” and keep them prepared for the new school year.
